Process to Exclude an IP Address in GA4

The process is divided into two main parts:


Part 1: Define Internal Traffic (Add IP Address Rule)

Open Google Analytics 4.


Click on Admin.

Select on Data Streams, and select your web data stream.

Click on Configure tag settings.

Scroll down and click on Show more.

Click on Define internal traffic.

Click Create.


Fill in the following details:

Rule name: (e.g., Office location name)

Traffic type value: (e.g., internal or location name)

Match type: Select IP address equals

Value: Enter the IP address to exclude

Click Save.


Part 2: Create a Data Filter to Exclude Internal Traffic

Go back to Admin.

Under the Data collection and modification column, click on Data Filters.

Click on Create Filter.


Choose Internal traffic as the filter type.

Fill in the following details:

Filter name: (e.g., Exclude Internal IP)

Filter operation: Select Exclude

Parameter value: Enter the same traffic type value you used earlier (e.g., internal or location name)

Choose Filter state as Active.

Click Save.
